Description

It's Looking Cloudy

The "storm glass" weather predictor—ancestor of this charming cloud—was popularized by pioneering meteorologist Robert Fitzroy, captain of HMS Beagle (famous for a passenger named Charles Darwin). In this playful interpretation, changes in barometric pressure make the special liquid crystallize in different patterns, mimicking the look of its cotton-ball-like cumulus cousin. This decorative meteorological marvel delights on desks, bookshelves, tables, and windowsills, an imaginative meeting of science and art with a dash of magic. The Beagle’s storm glass circumnavigated South America; yours can accompany you to Planet Weather Nerd. Designed in the United Kingdom. Made in China.

Made from

glass, paper, beech wood, ink, liquid component

Care

This product should be handled with care and kept out of reach of children. Should the product break, causing the liquid to leak or spill, avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of accidental ingestion, seek professional assistance or contact poison control center immediately. Keep away from heat, sparks, or other sources of ignition.

Notes

Place the Storm Cloud in an area of your home that is not subject to sudden temperature changes. Keep it away from heating or cooling vents and out of direct sunlight for the best results.

When you receive the Storm Cloud, it will be in the state of disruption and may take a week or more to settle into its new home. When the liquid is clear, it is ready to go.

Slowly, as the Storm Cloud adjusts to the room temperature, white matter will begin to appear out of the solution. Please allow 24 hours for the Storm Cloud to settle. If you notice after a few hours that the white mass is at the top of the cloud, shake gently and set the Storm Cloud back on its stand. Leave the Storm Cloud undisturbed and it will start to predict the weather. Try to avoid picking up and shaking the Storm Cloud so it can get comfortable and work its best.
